365 Project #18 Granite

Living on the Llano Uplift in Central Texas has its challenges, a lot of them to do with land and water.  The 'soil' is mainly decomposed granite, which provides gardeners with a well-draining but organic-materials-poor medium to plant in.  There's an ongoing joke; when asked how much compost should be added to a garden, the answer is, "How much money have you got?"

Drilling wells is a big hassle, too, as the time and equipment involved is much more challenging when drilling through granite layers or solid granite.

The LCRA, which manages land and water usage and safety in our area, has a lot of influence over our everyday lives.
