365 Project #312 Talavera Practice

When I'm painting a skull, it's important to have a good idea what I'm going to do, as the bone absorbs the paint and fixing mistakes is difficult. By doing a practice piece, I not only have the color combinations worked out, I have a small work to enjoy or sell.

I've been intrigued by Talavera-style Mexican pottery and did lots of research into styles, patterns and color combinations. This is a 6x6" canvas I did yesterday to work out the colors I want to incorporate into the next piece.
